Orchard Park is a city in Erie County and part of the greater Buffalo-Niagara region. Orchard Park has a population of over 29,045. Ironically, this town also contains a park known by the same name. Being located southeast of Buffalo, Orchard Park is considered to be part of the Southtowns and it is a popular area for commuters to live as many neighborhoods are more inclined towards families in this area.
Orchard Park was developed around a cabin built in 1803 by Didymus C. Kinney before Quakers settled in the area and began to expand the area that became Orchard Park. The town itself separated from Hamburg in 1850. This city is known for being a thriving area that holds one of the smallest concentrations of families, with only around 7,600 families living in the area as of the 2010 census.
While Orchard Park isn’t directly on the lake, it is part of the Southtowns that regularly receive heavy lake effect snow.
Orchard Park residents were affected by famous storms such as the Blizzard of ‘77 and the October Surprise Storm. Orchard Park averages around 114 inches of snow per winter season, almost quadrupling the average snowfall a city in the US gets.
